A Dog with Oronasal Fistula ONF
This is a long-haired Dachshund dog with an oronasal fistula ONF.
Treatment involves eliminating the trauma to the palate from the canine tooth and closing the oronasal fistula ONF in this dog. This is due to trauma from a base narrow canine tooth. Hair and debris are present within the defect in the palate extending into the nasal cavity causing a chronic nasal discharge.
Another view with the debris partially removed from the defect.
Following cleaning and debridement of the defect the mandibular canine that was causing the damage was reduced in height and a partial pulpectomy and vital pulp therapy was performed. Two months were given for tissue healing prior to closing the fistula.
The fistula was surgically repaired following two months healing time. This is 30 days post repair. The oronasal fistula in this dog is close and the problem eliminated.
